PATFox Germany: Second edition of local curriculum published

In collaboration with project partners, Philipp Wissing, coordinator of the Pioneering anti-SLAPP Training for Freedom of Expression (PATFox) in Germany and Research Associate at Blueprint for Free Speech, has presented the second edition of the PATFox Anti-SLAPP Curriculum for the German jurisdiction.

The curriculum, in its second edition, presents a groundbreaking training document that focuses on training German lawyers to effectively combat Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs). The aim is to enable lawyers to protect their clients from legal intimidation attempts by better recognising SLAPPs, becoming aware of current debates and applying legal strategies to respond appropriately.

The curriculum draws on both existing national law and the proposed EU Anti-SLAPP Directive, which is currently in the EU legislative process. The second edition brings together even more aspects of this field: beginning with an overview of SLAPPs and their identification, followed by a detailed analysis of the EU Directive and contributions to the debate in Germany, the document also outlines four exemplary German SLAPP cases and presents concrete recommendations for dealing with SLAPPs.

Particular emphasis is placed on the anti-SLAPP infrastructure in the EU and in Germany. The curriculum is designed to enable lawyers to effectively apply the new legal instruments to ensure that clients and the public enjoy the full protection of freedom of expression standards in the European Union.
