Meet the Winners of the 2023 Blueprint Whistleblowing Prizes

  • Michael Bawduniak

    Michael Bawduniak is the recipient of the 2023 Blueprint North America Whistleblowing Prize. His revelations about kickbacks for doctors prescribing multiple sclerosis medications in the United States led to the largest win for a US whistleblower suit on record.

  • Neville Devete

    Neville Devete sparked off one of Papua New Guinea’s largest corruption investigations, when he drew suspicious payments to the attention of the police in his role as the country’s solicitor-general. He is being honoured with the 2023 Blueprint Asia-Pacific Whistleblowing Prize.

  • Countess of Chester NHS Trust

    Dr Ravi Jayaram, Dr Steve Brearey, Dr John Gibbs and the other paediatric consultants at the Countess of Chester NHS Trust

    Paediatricians at Countess of Chester Hospital were very concerned that there may be a killer in their midst. Taking their concerns seriously may have saved lives, but they were shut down. However, their persistence played a key role in the most high-profile UK court case of the past year. They are deserving winners of the 2023 Blueprint UK Whistleblowing Prize.

    Dawood Khan and Wardah Latief blew the whistle on a notorious money laundering operation that funneled the proceeds of illicit South Africa cigarette sales to Dubai. They are both winners of the 2023 Blueprint Africa Whistleblowing Prize.

    Lukasz Krupski

    Lukasz Krupski is awarded the 2023 Blueprint Europe Whistleblowing Prize for furthering the debate on new automation technologies with all the means open to him. He revealed product safety failures at Tesla, compounded by a corporate culture that tried to keep those issues out of the public eye.

    Mzukisi Makatse

    Mzukisi Makatse is awarded with the 2023 Blueprint Africa Whistleblowing Prize. Mzukisi questioned the management of grant money at South Africa’s lottery commission. He has paid a high price for blowing the whistle.

    Mathapelo More

    Mathapelo More was an audit and risk manager at a large state-owned poultry farming operation in South Africa. Charged with eradicating corrupt practices, Mathapelo found herself facing multiple legal threats from her employers. She receives a 2023 Blueprint Africa Whistleblowing Prize.

    When Johannah and her husband Maruma blew the whistle on corruption in South Africa’s public procurement, the results were dire - but she continued to speak out. Johannah is being honoured with a 2023 Blueprint Africa Whistleblowing Prize.
